Innovation meets Sustainability: SINERGIA Outreach Workshop 2026

I love innovative stories that drive real change 💪

That’s why I left yesterday’s SINERGIA Outreach Workshop 2026, hosted by Berner Fachhochschule BFH in Zurich, totally energized.

It was wonderful to reconnect with familiar faces and dive into thought-provoking discussions on circular economy, the balance between CO₂ reduction and resource conservation, and how to embed sustainability into public procurement.

❓❓The Big Question: Should we prioritize cutting CO₂ emissions or conserving resources?

The answer?

Ideally, both. But the real breakthroughs come when we rethink existing systems and make the most of what we already have.

💡 A Standout Example:
One school needed space-saving, height-adjustable tables. Instead of purchasing new ones, they tendered a solution to upgrade their existing tables. The winning company ingeniously transformed the old tables into compact, height-adjustable units, like as an ironing board’s functionality! This smart restructuring saved money, cut waste, and set a new standard for sustainable procurement.
That’s what I call smart restructuring. This approach saved money, reduced waste, and set a benchmark for sustainable procurement.

Switzerland’s BöB (Bundesgesetz über das öffentliche Beschaffungswesen) already allows public tenders to include sustainability criteria. It’s time to make circular solutions a priority, whether it’s refurbishing furniture, reusing materials, or designing for longevity.

🌟 Key Insights:
⏩Circular economy isn’t just about recycling, it’s about reimagining
⏩Public procurement can drive change when sustainability is included into decision taking
⏩Small changes, big impact: From schools to villages, every tender is an opportunity to do better

🙏 A huge thank you to the organizers and speakers for such an important & inspiring event!

💡Let’s not wait for rules or regulations or perfect conditions. Start small in your own company or organization today. Every step counts, and real change begins with action.

What’s one thing you can do – that’s in your power – to make a difference?
